Finding Your Purpose, Not Just Passion
I would argue that purpose is more important than passion.

Many of us grow up believing we need to “follow our passions” to live a happy and fulfilling life. We are told to find that one thing we are deeply passionate about and make that our life's purpose. But is passion alone enough to sustain a meaningful life? I would argue that purpose is more important than passion.
Passion fades. It is often fleeting, coming, and going in waves. Relying solely on passion can lead to burnout and resentment when the fervor dies down. Passion does not easily withstand challenging times. When challenges inevitably arise, passion alone may not be enough to push through.
Purpose, on the other hand, goes deeper. It aligns with your core values and provides a stable compass to guide your life's direction. Purpose is about contributing to something bigger than yourself. It is about making a positive impact, however small. Purpose pulls you forward during tough times and keeps you grounded during highs.
Rather than only seeking what excites us, we should search for opportunities to be useful and to serve others meaningfully. Passion is often self-focused, but purpose looks outward.
Living purposefully also enables us to tolerate periods when our work is not especially fun or gratifying. With purpose as the foundation, passion becomes a nice bonus when it comes, but purpose keeps us steadily anchored whether passion is there or not.
The ideal is when passion and purpose align. When what energizes us also contributes value to the world, that is when our lives feel most meaningful. But we should not rely on passion alone to chart our course. Purpose, mixed with passion, can carry us through all seasons of life.
So let purpose guide you first. Allow your values to direct you toward serving a cause bigger than self. With purpose as the compass, you are more likely to live an impactful life, no matter which passions come and go along the journey.
