The future of sleep medicine is looking brighter thanks to a new artificial intelligence tool. Korean company HoneyNaps has gained approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its sleep disorder diagnosis software called SOMNUM.

SOMNUM is the first AI-powered sleep analysis system approved for a Korean firm. It uses deep learning algorithms to read complex biosignals collected during sleep studies. This allows SOMNUM to provide rapid, accurate diagnoses to assist medical providers.

This is a game-changer for the sleep medicine field. Only two other AI sleep diagnosis tools have been okayed by the FDA to date.

Explainable AI1 gives SOMNUM an edge over other systems. It can show providers the reasoning behind its diagnoses. Published studies have already validated the software's performance.

The company aims to build on the success by expanding SOMNUM's capabilities. The software may even be able to screen for diseases like heart conditions someday.

For now, HoneyNaps is focused on accelerating its global rollout. The FDA milestone paves the way for SOMNUM to make its mark on sleep medicine around the world.
